RSNA

Another RSNA has drawn to a close – I believe this is the 12th time we have had a booth exhibit there … we started in 2004 and barring one year, have exhibited each year, and this year was as exciting and rejuvenating as ever!

I recall how in 2004 when we first exhibited, Teleradiology was the flavor of the day. It had exploded on the scene and there was a profusion of Teleradiology booths. This year it was interesting to see that the number of Telerad Co booths had declined precipitously as most of our competitors have been acquired over the past few years, including several that looked very promising in their early days. Even the big industry leader was barely recognizable under its new Avatar. It was therefore satisfying to know that we are still holding the baton for the industry.

The new kid on the RSNA block this year, representing a paradigm shift in technology was Artificial Intelligence. Over 100 abstracts and lectures on the subject and a profusion of booths, with a whole section of the scientific and technical exhibits dedicated to it – AI has clearly arrived. The good thing is that we are well positioned with partnerships and alliances with several of the AI companies and institutions, and this reflected in the meeting mix for the conference.

A visit to Cleveland followed, to meet with the Biomedical Engineers led by my friend and colleague Anant Madabushi, and to speak on the topic : AI in Medical

Imaging, a Radiologist’s perspective. A refreshing and illuminating visit to an excellent research lab doing cutting edge work in their field.

Quotable quotes of the week:

” Imaging without quantitative data is like art appreciation ” – Mark Michalski, MD. Executive Director MGH and Brigham Center for Clinical Data Science.

“Every biopsy is an Imaging Failure” – Vikas Gulani, MD PhD, Associate Professor of Radiology, Biomedical Imaging and Director of MRI, Case Western University Comprehensive Cancer Center
