DICOM 2013 International Conference & Seminar

I am currently involved in planning the DICOM 2013 International Conference & Seminar which is to be held for the first time in India, in Bangalore, at the Indian Institute of Science auditorium.

This is a landmark event this year as it is the 20th anniversary of the year when the DICOM standard was first established.

My job as chair of day 3 (the clinical day) of the conference has been to put together the course curriculum, an interesting task involving selecting and inviting top speakers and planning the day’s schedule.

DICOM – (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) is the standard for imaging informatics – that allows every piece of imaging equipment to speak to every piece of PACS equipment. In recognition of the need for such a standard the ACR (academia) and NEMA (industry) collaborated and formed a standards committee in 1983. And the rest is history!

Bangalore is an appropriate location for the conference as it is the hub of medical imaging, with companies like GE, Siemens and Philips having their image processing labs and IT departments based here. The conference will offer learning to both engineers, developers and medical/imaging professionals at a very high level . http://dicom.nema.org
